ACTIVE AGING WEEK

At Age Friendly Central Brooklyn, Inc. (AFCBI), we are dedicated to giving value and voice to older adults 62 and over in Central Brooklyn. Each year, during the first week of October, we celebrate our commitment to this growing population by hosting our annual signature fall event ACTIVE AGING WEEK (AAW) October 5, 2026, through October 11, 2026.

This fall, Age Friendly Central Brooklyn, Inc. (AFCBI), is asking its members and the Central Brooklyn Community to Embrace Living! the theme for this year’s ACTIVE AGING WEEK (AAW). During the week, there will be a variety of events highlighting how AFCBI members Embrace Living!, including the annual Courtney Washington Fashion Show and a musical performance by Stanley Banks & Friends. Both feature AFCBI members. Each event explores one of the seven dimensions of wellness: emotional, environmental, intellectual, physical, social, spiritual, and vocational —underscoring the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle for older adults.

ACTIVE AGING WEEK is the signature fall event for Age Friendly Central Brooklyn, Inc. and launches our annual renewal/membership drive, signaling the start of our program lineup for 2026-2027. Funding for this year’s ACTIVE AGING WEEK is provided by Assembly member Stefani L. Zinerman, Council Member Chi Ossé, and Brooklyn.Org.

ACTIVE AGING WEEK is presented by Humana and organized by the International Council on Active Aging®, the association that has been leading, connecting, and defining the active aging industry since 2001. Age Friendly Central Brooklyn, Inc. has been a member since 2017.

(AFCBI) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community-based organization led by a volunteer group of older adults that builds upon the rich experiences of adults age 62 and older to ensure they can age in place. About Assembly Member Stefani L. Zinerman.

Assembly Member Stefani L. Zinerman represents New York’s 56th Assembly District, which includes the vibrant communities of Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights. She serves as Deputy Majority Whip, Chair of the Subcommittee on Emerging Workforce, and Vice Chair of the Black Legislative Taskforce. A lifelong advocate for equity, aging with dignity, and community empowerment, Assembly member Zinerman has championed legislation and initiatives that advance aging in place, health equity, protect homeowners, support small businesses, and expand opportunities for older adults and young people. Her partnership with the age-friendly movement in Central Brooklyn began before her election to the Assembly and continues through her support of AFCBI’s leadership, programs, and mission. She remains committed to ensuring that older New Yorkers have the resources, respect, representation, and opportunities they need to live well at every age.
